When it comes time to select an enterprise software system, many companies get bogged down because the systems are so interdependent, and because executives don't have extensive experience in making selections. Internal selection committees lack methodologies and selection criteria. To make the selection process more efficient, companies should assemble an empowered group of three to five executives who determine objectives, success factors, and ROI goals. Then, the group can decide on buying and selection criteria--ideally within 45 days to avoid "analysis paralysis."
